The Duo Novalis was founded in 1991 by Stefania Amisano and Claudio Cristani as a stable ensemble with the program of building a repertoire furthering the chamber music aspect of four hands.?After being trained by Pierpaolo Maurizzi, the duo studied with Dario De Rosa,
Maureen Jones, the Trio di Triesteand Josef Paratore, specializing at prestigious academies such as Scuola di Musica di Fiesole (I) and Scuola Superiore Internazionale di Musica da Camera del Trio di Trieste in Duino (I), Internationale Sommerakademie Mozarteum Salzburg (A). From its debut in 1992 in the Jeunesses Musicales concert series, the duo has been undertaking an intense concert activity in Italy and abroad, being
distinguished for its players exactitude and balance. The duo received outstanding appreciation at important national and international competitions and was reviewed as being one of the best groups in the italian musical panorama.?The duo has released numerous CDs and radio broadcasts and has also played the complete piano four hands work of Paul Hindemith on the first world CD release (Rainbow Classics).?Besides historical repertoire,
the duo is oriented towards modern music languages, following a path that from the fundamental experiences of the 20th Century, at whose core is the work of György Kurtág, leads to contemporary expression forms.?The duo frequently collaborates with others musicians and artists in order to stage borderline projects between music, theatre and new media.
Since 2009 the duo devotes itself wholly to contemporary music, commissioning composers with a specific interest in the establishment of new itineraries in the field of chamber music, by interacting with other artistic areas. In 2010 has founded with composers Giorgio Klauer and Stefano Trevisi the ensemble Cantierezero whose purpose is to contribute to research and creation in the field of new music, this goal being achieved through ideation and realization of original projects.
